Definition

An AI Employee is a digital coworker with a role, approved knowledge and a consistent way of supporting people. Agents are specialized capabilities that help it complete particular tasks.

Why it matters

Keeping these concepts separate makes the platform easier to understand and govern. Employees can work with a familiar digital role, while administrators decide which capabilities are available behind that role.

Real-world example

The HR Employee

Employees ask the HR Employee about policies, onboarding or leave. When a specific action is needed, the HR Employee may use an Email Agent, Calendar Agent or Document Agent. The user does not need to coordinate each capability manually.

Key benefits

A clear point of contact for employees

Capabilities remain modular and reusable

Permissions can be managed more precisely

New capabilities can be added without redesigning the employee experience

Common questions

Do AI Employees require Agents?

No. An AI Employee can answer from approved knowledge without using an Agent. Agents become useful when a focused task or connected system is involved.

Can one Agent support several AI Employees?

Yes. For example, an Email Agent may support HR, Sales and Operations AI Employees while using the permissions defined by the organization.
